Proximate composition analysis of trash fish from the selected landing sites of Jaffna district, Sri Lanka

Marine coastal fishery often yields a considerable portion of the non-target species and by-catch as trash fish in total catch. Generally, it consists edible inedible species, which are unacceptable for human consumption usually discarded waste. However, has significant potential to use animal feed. The current study was intended determine proximate composition abundant selected landing sites Jaffna peninsula from November 2018 March 2019. Crude protein, fat, ash moisture content were analyzed samples. Eight dominant such Trichiurus lepturus, Carangoides talamparoides, Arius caelatus, Hilsa kelee, Pellona ditchela, Dussumieria acuta, Aurigequula fasciata, Leiognathus splendens subjected analysis. Among talamparoides highest protein value (18.68%), kelee consisted fat (12.62%), Ash (2.33%) is fasciata (80.32%) high caelatus. present revealed rich nutritive values locally available resources that presently being wasted, nutrient ingredient artificial feed formulation livestock farming. It could be concluded converting into wealth (livestock feed) an opportunity adding by-product.
